Edmonton squad fires final-round 60 to win 2025 PGA Scramble Presented by BMW National Final

Ashleigh Shadagopal picked up golf during COVID because of the mandate that players could only play with members of the same household. She didn’t want her husband to have to play alone.
Little did she know at the time that the sport would take her on a journey of a lifetime to Cabot Cape Breton to play in the 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final alongside her husband, Nakul (Nucks, as his team calls him), his cousin Arjun Suresh and his wife Christina Mah.
Joined by Cattails Crossing Golf & Winter Club Head Professional Ryan Dyck, the group demonstrated just what makes the event so amazing on the 16th hole of the Links course on Tuesday with all of the tournament pressure on them.
From 185-yards out, Ashleigh hit a fairway wood that landed on the front edge of the green, scared the hole, and settled 15-feet past it.
With the sun shining and the ocean serving as a backdrop, she melted into her husband’s arms in an embrace- “the best shot of my life,” she called it.
After Ashleigh’s shot, both ‘Nucks’ and Dyck hit it just as close. At that moment – already holding a two-stroke lead – the tournament was over.
The cherry on top was Dyck lipping out his tee shot on the 17th, tapping in for birdie to help them to a score of 60 and five-stroke victory.
The win makes Ashleigh and Christina the first female National Champions in program history.
“To be the first two female winners is unbelievable,” said Mah. “I'm not going to lie, ‘Nucks’ sent us the screenshots of all the last few winners and I'm like ‘you guys, females have never won this!’”
‘Nucks’, who his team called the MVP, was over the moon.
“He is always our team lead. He wanted this the most, too. He knew what we needed to do and knew how to strategize,” his team said, all contributing to the conversation. “He was the organizer. The hype man!”
Needless to say, the team was impressed with Cabot Cape Breton and the tournament experience.
“Cliffs yesterday, it felt like every time I turned a corner I was on a signature hole somewhere. I forgot that we were competing in a tournament for a while,” the team said. “Everything outside of golf this week has been fantastic. The dinners have been fun, the night events, it's just so cool.”
“As amateur average golfers, this is something that we would never get to experience and just being here, it's just so much fun,” they added.
That puts a bow on the 2025 edition of the event – we hope to see you at a local qualifier in 2026!

Cattail Crossing shoots 59 on Cabot Cliffs to take 3.1 stroke lead into final round of PGA Scramble Presented by BMW Final

The second round of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final featured the best conditions in the 10-year history of the program. You couldn’t find a cloud in the sky as temperatures topped 26-degrees, without even a breath of wind at Cabot Cape Breton on Monday.
The squad from Cattail Crossing in Edmonton, A.B., led by PGA of Canada Professional Ryan Dyck took advantage, shooting 59, which included eagles on 8 and 15, to pull ahead by 3.1 strokes over the team from Greystone Golf Club.

Cattail Crossing mentioned that the highlight – and turning point – of the round was when they made a 35-foot putt to save par on the 4th hole. They went 5-under the next four holes following the save.
“We probably yelled louder for that par putt than we did for the birdies, because it felt like we were slipping away and then that par save turned the whole day around,” said Ashleigh Shadagopal.
It generally takes a tight-knit team to win the PGA Scramble presented by BMW – and the squad from Edmonton is about as tight as they come. Nakul and Arjun are cousins and are married to Ashleigh and Christina.
Prior to the championship, Nakul mentioned the team got butterflies just thinking about the opportunity to participate.
“(Qualifying) means a lot to us as some of us have been trying to make it to this moment for several years now,” said Nakul last month. “To be able to do this as a team of family members is going to make the moment even more special. A story that we will be sharing at our family dinner table for years to come.”
Arriving at Cabot Cape Breton on Saturday, the team says the moment lived up to expectations.
“Driving around the corner in the bus – Naks has been sending us videos of years past for weeks leading up to this,” said Ashleigh.
“I don’t think he worked for a month leading up to this, he was just sending us videos,” joked his cousin.
“Seeing the videos, they didn’t even do it justice. Walking onto this course today every hole was a view and a half,” said Mah. “The weather has also been amazing. We lucked out for it to be October 6 and to be in short sleeves. I put on sunscreen today!”
“Also, the organizers, the vibes have been amazing this whole weekend, between the contests and food, it has been a 10/10,” Mah added.
Cabot Links will be the stage for the final round, with the first tee time set for 8:15 AM.
Team from The Nest leads PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final following first round
The first round of the 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final at Cabot Cape Breton saw the squad from The Nest at Friday Harbour, led by PGA of Canada Professional - and 2021 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada winner Branson Ferrier - pull ahead by just .1 of a stroke on Sunday on Cabot Links.
The Nest’s squad – which has a team handicap of 4.8 - made eagle on No. 8 on their way to a gross score of 56 on the par-70 layout. The team trailing them by .1 - from Cattail Crossing Golf & Country Club in Edmonton, AB – has a team handicap of 10.7 and shot a gross 62.

Saturday night featured the BMW Night Golf Challenge, where Jeremy Novakowski hit two stellar shots under the lights to send the team, which qualified from Olds Golf Club, an hour north of Calgary, on an all-expense paid trip to visit the BMW Performance Center in Thermal, California.
Sunday Night will feature the adidas Putting Challenge, where teams will each nominate a player to compete under the lights of the Cabot Bar to win full adidas outfits.
Cabot Cliffs will be the stage for the second round, with the first tee time set for 8:15 AM.

The Stage is Set: PGA Scramble Presented by BMW National Final Returns to Cabot Cape Breton for Its 10th Edition
The wait is over; the energy is building. The 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final has officially arrived at Cabot Cape Breton, and 21 teams from across the country are ready to chase glory on one of the most breathtaking stages in golf.
These teams weren’t handed a ticket—they earned it. First, by surviving their local qualifiers, and then proving their clutch factor once again at their Regional Final. Now, after months of anticipation, they’ve arrived at the end of the road with one question looming: who has what it takes to hoist the Scramble trophy in this milestone year?
Cabot Cape Breton isn’t just a destination—it’s a golfer’s paradise; like an oasis found in a desert. But this oasis not only has water – and arguably the best golf in the country – it also has Michelob Ultra.
Competitors will be welcomed by honourary starter Bob Weeks before they battle it out on Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs, bucket-list masterpieces that rank among the very best golf courses in the world. From firm fairways that hug the ocean to cliffside greens, every shot will be a true test.

PGA Scramble presented by BMW moves forward with alternative finale plans
Participants to enjoy an enhanced regional final experience featuring over $150,000 CAD worth of gifting and prizing
Acton, Ont. (August 13, 2020) - The PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company announced today the cancellation of its national final, originally scheduled from Oct. 4-6 at Cabot Cape Breton in Inverness, N.S.
The decision comes as a result of ongoing travel restrictions associated with the Atlantic bubble, the recent extension of Nova Scotia’s state of emergency and continued health concerns surrounding COVID-19 across the country.
The program announced its backup plans in June, committing to a decision on the national final’s fate prior to the start of regionals.
“The safety and well-being of everyone involved in the program continues to be our top priority,” said Mary DePaoli, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, RBC. “In conjunction with our partners, we have made the decision to move forward with our alternative plans given the information available at this time. While we share in the disappointment of players, we are pleased to proceed with an enhanced and unique regional experience for all participants.”
As a result of the cancellation, the PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company will move forward with enhanced regional events featuring over $150,000 CAD worth of gifting and prizing. These prizes come in addition to the complimentary Pro-level GOLFTV subscription included with all player registrations at the local level.
“We’ve been able to leverage the funds normally put toward the national final and work with our partners to create one of the all-time greatest prizing experiences available in Canada,” said Kevin Thistle, chief executive officer of the PGA of Canada.
For the first time, all regional finalists (approx. 1,100 players) will receive one dozen Pro V1s and a Titleist hat for advancing beyond the first stage of the competition.
Prizing at regionals will be awarded to the top three teams, with first-place groups winning a $1,500 CAD per person online shopping experience with Titleist and FootJoy and second and third-place teams receiving a Pro Shop gift certificate at their regional venue. The top two teams will also take home a custom leather keepsake thanks to a collaboration between Lincoln and Nova Scotia-based Dormie Workshop.
One overall winning team will be determined by comparing score differentials (using net scores and Course and Slope Ratings) across the 11 regional finals, with the national champions taking home a 2021 RBC Canadian Open VIP Package, which includes travel, accommodations and tickets to next year’s PGA TOUR event at St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Toronto, in addition to the $1,500 CAD per person shopping spree with Titleist and FootJoy.
A draw prize for two nights’ accommodation and two rounds of golf at Cabot Cape Breton will also be awarded to one lucky team.
The PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company saw record-breaking participation this season, with nearly 11,000 players taking part in 140 local qualifying events nationwide. Female participation grew 25% year-over-year following the creation of an all-female spot at every regional final.
The program implemented several safety protocols in response to the coronavirus pandemic, including the use of online registration and scoring to reduce touchpoints, tee-time starts, mailing prizes post-play, mandatory physical distancing and more.
“We are proud to provide an enjoyable opportunity for golfers to safely compete, especially during a time when most team sports and events are unable to operate,” stated Thistle. “We look forward to building on the enthusiasm at local qualifiers to deliver an elevated experience for participants at the next stage of the competition. We would like to thank all PGA of Canada professionals and amateur players for embracing the new safety protocols that allowed us to make this possible.”
The PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company Regional Final season comprises 11 events over four weeks at some of the country’s top golf courses. Historically conducted as shotgun events with a closing dinner and prize presentation, this year’s tournaments will follow a tee-time format to limit group gatherings.
The first regional final kicks off Aug. 17 at Cutten Fields in Guelph, Ont.

Bucket List Experience at PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company National Final
Participants in PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company National Final were treated to a someday moment Friday at Cabot Cliffs.
Even blustery winds and a persistent rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of the 21 teams playing in the national final’s second round on Canada’s top-ranked golf course.
“Playing out here at Cabot Cliffs today was one of those bucket list moments,” said the team from Scarboro Golf and Country Club. “For RBC, The Lincoln Motor Company and the PGA of Canada to run this event and have us at Cabot Links for three days is just amazing and really is the trip of the lifetime.”
Taking place this week at the world-famous Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs in Inverness, N.S., this once-in-a-lifetime national final features 21 teams—comprised of four amateurs and one PGA of Canada professional—playing in a 54-hole national championship.
The team from Collicutt Siding in Calgary echoed the sentiments of the squad from Scarboro.
“We’re just super-thankful to be here at this tremendously-run tournament,” Collicut Siding said after their second round. “This is a big deal—you get to compete in a national championship, play the two best golf courses in Canada and have Bob Weeks introduce you on the first tee is incredible.”
Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member and golf media personality Bob Weeks was on site during championship week to handle emcee duties at the opening ceremonies and as honorary starter for the first round and second rounds at Cabot Links. Canadian sports telecaster Daren Millard will also be on hand as honorary starter for the final round and as emcee for the championship's final ceremonies.
In addition to the opening ceremonies, participants in the national final are treated to two RBC dinners at the Panorama restaurant, as well as two receptions by The Lincoln Motor Company and a closing ceremonies event.
The team from B.C.’s Salmon Arm Golf Club leads the national final at 37.8-under-heading into Saturday’s final round at Cabot Links. P.E.I.’s Fox Meadow trails Salmon arm just 0.1 shots, while Whistle Bear Golf Club rounds out the top three at 37.1-under-par. Last year’s winners from Cordova Bay Golf Course in B.C., sits in fourth at -36.8 with local favourites from The Links at Brunello in fifth at 36.3-under par.

[INVERNESS, N.S.]—The PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company National Final got underway Thursday at Cabot Links and participants were treated to a truly east-coast golfing experience.
Twenty-one teams—comprised of four amateurs and one PGA of Canada professional—from across the country made their way around a Cabot Links venue that played exactly as billed: linksy.
“We’ve all watched the British Open where you have to hit shots like bump-and-runs, low pitches and flighted drivers,” said the team from Ontario’s The Golf Club at Lora Bay. “Playing Cabot Links today was just like that, a real links golf experience.”
Currently, the Lora Bay team sits in second place at 17.9-under-par. The leaders from Fox Meadow Golf Course in P.E.I. Golf is at 18.3-under-par. Local favourites from The Links at Brunello are in third at 17.7-under-par. Last year’s national final winners from Cordova Bay are in fourth at 17.6-under-par, while Whistle Bear Golf rounds out the top five at 16.8-under par.

As if it were scripted, the 2017 PGA Scramble presented by BMW presented by The Lincoln Motor Company National Final came down to a nerve-inducing putt.
Needing to make a four-foot par putt for the win on the final hole at Cabot Links, team Cordova Bay amateur player Rodney Webber stepped up and made the biggest putt of his life.
“I’m no professional golfer, but standing over that putt I definitely felt like one,” Webber said. “That was definitely the most pressure-packed putt I’ve ever had in my life.”
Webber, along with his Cordova Bay teammates—Phil Kondrak, Eric Smith, Eric Watson and PGA of Canada professional Nate Ollis—finished the three-day national championship at Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs at 46-under-par, mere 0.8 better than the squad from The Landings.
“Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better week,” Cordova Bay said after last week's win. “We can’t thank RBC and The Lincoln Motor Company enough for supporting this amazing event,” they said, adding, “the experience from the very beginning has been world class—from the golf courses to the meals and the lodging—everything has been the best.”
