Edmonton squad fires final-round 60 to win 2025 PGA Scramble Presented by BMW National Final

Ashleigh Shadagopal picked up golf during COVID because of the mandate that players could only play with members of the same household. She didn’t want her husband to have to play alone.
Little did she know at the time that the sport would take her on a journey of a lifetime to Cabot Cape Breton to play in the 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final alongside her husband, Nakul (Nucks, as his team calls him), his cousin Arjun Suresh and his wife Christina Mah.
Joined by Cattails Crossing Golf & Winter Club Head Professional Ryan Dyck, the group demonstrated just what makes the event so amazing on the 16th hole of the Links course on Tuesday with all of the tournament pressure on them.
From 185-yards out, Ashleigh hit a fairway wood that landed on the front edge of the green, scared the hole, and settled 15-feet past it.
With the sun shining and the ocean serving as a backdrop, she melted into her husband’s arms in an embrace- “the best shot of my life,” she called it.
After Ashleigh’s shot, both ‘Nucks’ and Dyck hit it just as close. At that moment – already holding a two-stroke lead – the tournament was over.
The cherry on top was Dyck lipping out his tee shot on the 17th, tapping in for birdie to help them to a score of 60 and five-stroke victory.
The win makes Ashleigh and Christina the first female National Champions in program history.
“To be the first two female winners is unbelievable,” said Mah. “I'm not going to lie, ‘Nucks’ sent us the screenshots of all the last few winners and I'm like ‘you guys, females have never won this!’”
‘Nucks’, who his team called the MVP, was over the moon.
“He is always our team lead. He wanted this the most, too. He knew what we needed to do and knew how to strategize,” his team said, all contributing to the conversation. “He was the organizer. The hype man!”
Needless to say, the team was impressed with Cabot Cape Breton and the tournament experience.
“Cliffs yesterday, it felt like every time I turned a corner I was on a signature hole somewhere. I forgot that we were competing in a tournament for a while,” the team said. “Everything outside of golf this week has been fantastic. The dinners have been fun, the night events, it's just so cool.”
“As amateur average golfers, this is something that we would never get to experience and just being here, it's just so much fun,” they added.
That puts a bow on the 2025 edition of the event – we hope to see you at a local qualifier in 2026!

Cattail Crossing shoots 59 on Cabot Cliffs to take 3.1 stroke lead into final round of PGA Scramble Presented by BMW Final

The second round of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final featured the best conditions in the 10-year history of the program. You couldn’t find a cloud in the sky as temperatures topped 26-degrees, without even a breath of wind at Cabot Cape Breton on Monday.
The squad from Cattail Crossing in Edmonton, A.B., led by PGA of Canada Professional Ryan Dyck took advantage, shooting 59, which included eagles on 8 and 15, to pull ahead by 3.1 strokes over the team from Greystone Golf Club.

Cattail Crossing mentioned that the highlight – and turning point – of the round was when they made a 35-foot putt to save par on the 4th hole. They went 5-under the next four holes following the save.
“We probably yelled louder for that par putt than we did for the birdies, because it felt like we were slipping away and then that par save turned the whole day around,” said Ashleigh Shadagopal.
It generally takes a tight-knit team to win the PGA Scramble presented by BMW – and the squad from Edmonton is about as tight as they come. Nakul and Arjun are cousins and are married to Ashleigh and Christina.
Prior to the championship, Nakul mentioned the team got butterflies just thinking about the opportunity to participate.
“(Qualifying) means a lot to us as some of us have been trying to make it to this moment for several years now,” said Nakul last month. “To be able to do this as a team of family members is going to make the moment even more special. A story that we will be sharing at our family dinner table for years to come.”
Arriving at Cabot Cape Breton on Saturday, the team says the moment lived up to expectations.
“Driving around the corner in the bus – Naks has been sending us videos of years past for weeks leading up to this,” said Ashleigh.
“I don’t think he worked for a month leading up to this, he was just sending us videos,” joked his cousin.
“Seeing the videos, they didn’t even do it justice. Walking onto this course today every hole was a view and a half,” said Mah. “The weather has also been amazing. We lucked out for it to be October 6 and to be in short sleeves. I put on sunscreen today!”
“Also, the organizers, the vibes have been amazing this whole weekend, between the contests and food, it has been a 10/10,” Mah added.
Cabot Links will be the stage for the final round, with the first tee time set for 8:15 AM.
Team from The Nest leads PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final following first round
The first round of the 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final at Cabot Cape Breton saw the squad from The Nest at Friday Harbour, led by PGA of Canada Professional - and 2021 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada winner Branson Ferrier - pull ahead by just .1 of a stroke on Sunday on Cabot Links.
The Nest’s squad – which has a team handicap of 4.8 - made eagle on No. 8 on their way to a gross score of 56 on the par-70 layout. The team trailing them by .1 - from Cattail Crossing Golf & Country Club in Edmonton, AB – has a team handicap of 10.7 and shot a gross 62.

Saturday night featured the BMW Night Golf Challenge, where Jeremy Novakowski hit two stellar shots under the lights to send the team, which qualified from Olds Golf Club, an hour north of Calgary, on an all-expense paid trip to visit the BMW Performance Center in Thermal, California.
Sunday Night will feature the adidas Putting Challenge, where teams will each nominate a player to compete under the lights of the Cabot Bar to win full adidas outfits.
Cabot Cliffs will be the stage for the second round, with the first tee time set for 8:15 AM.

The Stage is Set: PGA Scramble Presented by BMW National Final Returns to Cabot Cape Breton for Its 10th Edition
The wait is over; the energy is building. The 10th edition of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final has officially arrived at Cabot Cape Breton, and 21 teams from across the country are ready to chase glory on one of the most breathtaking stages in golf.
These teams weren’t handed a ticket—they earned it. First, by surviving their local qualifiers, and then proving their clutch factor once again at their Regional Final. Now, after months of anticipation, they’ve arrived at the end of the road with one question looming: who has what it takes to hoist the Scramble trophy in this milestone year?
Cabot Cape Breton isn’t just a destination—it’s a golfer’s paradise; like an oasis found in a desert. But this oasis not only has water – and arguably the best golf in the country – it also has Michelob Ultra.
Competitors will be welcomed by honourary starter Bob Weeks before they battle it out on Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs, bucket-list masterpieces that rank among the very best golf courses in the world. From firm fairways that hug the ocean to cliffside greens, every shot will be a true test.

Team from Larters at St. Andrews wins PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final at Cabot Cape Breton

The team comprised of PGA of Canada professional Devon Schade and amateurs Ethan Hunter, Kayle Tosh, William Middleton and Tanner Chamberlin, who originally qualified from Larters at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club Manitoba, were dominant the past three days at Cabot Cape Breton, firing net -64.1 (gross rounds of 58-55-56) to win by 4.1 strokes over the team from Niagara National Golf Club at the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final.
With the win, the full team wins special Cabot Cape Breton PGA Scramble presented by BMW headcovers produced by Dormie, as well as a trip to the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.
Bob Weeks introduced the champions at the trophy ceremony where PGA professional Schade – who was referred to by his team as “Shadow” throughout the week – got on the microphone.
“The staff here at Cabot, and the course, as well as the whole event were just top notch,” said Schade. “Huge thanks to RBC, adidas and Michelob for making everything happen this week.”
The runner-up was the team from Niagara National Golf & Country Club which included PGA of Canada professional Keaton Jones and amateurs Ryan Nagy, Mike Formica, Shane Belanger and Mike Maloney, while the team from Pinegrove Country Club featuring PGA of Canada professional Louis-Alexandre Pitre and amateurs Luc Guevremont, Laurence Guevremont, Amelia Guevremont and Charles Guevremont rounded out the top 3.
For the second-straight day, the roar of a team who made an ace could be heard across the property. Darcy Myers made an ace on the 7th hole of the Links, joining Jason Sikrtanc who aced the 12th hole on the Cliffs on Monday.
In total, the 2024 PGA Scramble presented by BMW featured over 12,000 players from across the country looking to earn a spot at Cabot Cape Breton at over 180 local qualifiers hosted by PGA of Canada professionals. The tournament also set a record with over 1,200 female participants.

The second round of the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final on the Cliffs Course at Cabot Cape Breton never fails to disappoint.
In the championship’s 9th edition, Monday, as it always does, lived up to the hype.
That was especially true for the team from Larters at St. Andrews comprised of PGA of Canada professional Devon Schade and amateurs Ethan Hunter, Kayle Tosh, William Middleton and Tanner Chamberlin.
After firing 58 on Sunday, they shot 55 on Monday, making four eagles, including one on the par-4 5th hole after driving the green.
“We had a couple tough starting holes with back-to-back pars, but our pro hit it to 5-feet on 5 for eagle and then we got back on track,” said team member Chamberlin. “The back was playing a bit easier than the front and we attacked a lot of holes on the ocean side.”
The PGA Scramble presented by BMW features a format that requires each team must use three of each player’s tee shots – one player still had two tee balls remaining to use with three holes to go.
“On 16 he hit it to 10 feet on the par-3, and then on 17 he got it to 100-yards out which was perfect for us and all of us were able to bomb it down the par-5 closing hole.”
The round of the championship belonged to the squad from Sleepy Hollow Country Club, highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 12th hole by Jason Sikrtanc. Needless to say, the boys were, indeed, buzzing.
“It was a 194-yard 6 iron,” said Sikrtanc, with a smile. “My caddie Glen told me to hit it to the middle and let it drop, it probably rolled for 10 seconds and went in and all the guys celebrated. My head pro and a few of my best mates I’ve had for a long time are (on the team) so it was a good time, for sure.”
Sikrtanc mentioned the team came into the second round with a lot of intention, knowing they needed to make a big move.
They certainly accomplished what they set out for in the morning, moving all the way into sixth place, just 5.1 strokes behind the lead.
Final-round tee time begin at 8:30 AM on the Links course on Tuesday.
Women’s Wild Card team leads PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final
Anybody that has had the opportunity to play in the PGA Scramble presented by BMW National Final knows that just getting to Cabot Cape Breton is the biggest prize of them all – winning would be the cherry on top. That sense was evident when Wanda Brown was brought to tears after her team’s round on Sunday when asked about their experience thus far.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Brown.
She handed the microphone to another teammate, fighting back tears.
This is what this place, and this event, means to people. This is what 12,000 amateur golfers began the season thinking about when they formed their team.
100 of them are now on site at Cabot, having a once-in-a-lifetime experience thanks to the support the PGA of Canada has received from RBC, adidas Golf, Michelob Ultra and Golf Canada.
PGA of Canada Pro Caleb Ellis mentioned each company by name when asked about the experience.
The team also admitted to having “a few” Michelob Ultras last night during the Night Golf Shootout. Check out that link for what made that event so fun.
The team from Rockway Vineyards; Brown, Wenda Recoskie, Mary Hanna, and Katy Smithson, alongside Ellis, had a special day on the Links course, shooting 61 (net 47.9) to lead the championship by 1.3 strokes over the team from Niagara National Golf & Country Club.
“We started out a little bit shaky, but we started to have some fun and we nailed it!” said Hanna.
“The ladies played really good, we hit some shots tight and made some putts. Everyone played well," said Ellis.
On the par-3 17th, Brown used the slope at the back of the green to perfection as the ball rolled out to about 6-feet, where Ellis made no mistake, making the team’s 10th birdie of the day.
“That was very exciting,” she said.
The team encompasses everything the PGA Scramble presented by BMW is about; giving everyone, regardless of skill level, the chance to compete on a huge stage – a National Championship – at the top course in Canada.

The PGA Scramble presented by BMW is back, with more local qualifying opportunities than ever before, and a brand-new Regional Final announced at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley! Team up alongside your closest friends or family members to earn a spot at one of the 13 Regional Finals across Canada, with teams having the opportunity to qualify through both low gross and low net categories. From there, teams will compete for the chance to earn a spot in the National Final at Cabot Cape Breton - the trip of a lifetime. Continuing this year, we have reserved two spots in the National Final for all-female teams. In addition, our team continues to monitor all team handicaps to ensure fairness and program integrity.
